Preview from the story

When Maya found Tyson had ended the call before she could speak another word it was extremely difficult to hold the tears in. She sunk down by her dresser and began sobbing loudly, forgetting that Cedric was in the other room.
When he heard the sobs curiosity got the best of him and he got up from where he was eating at the kitchen bar to see what was going on.
Inside her room he found Maya on the floor. One hand carried her phone, the other was covering her eyes as tears seeped mercilessly through her fingers.
Cedric leaned against the side of the doorway, dumbfounded at what he could possibly do to help her. He felt so much sadness looking at her suffer the way she was, but what could he do?
He wasn't sure what she was going through, but it made him sad just to see her go through this. He wanted nothing more than for her to be happy.
His footsteps slowly crept up to her. Her sobs too loud to even realize he was there. Then he crouched down and caught her up in his arms. He instantly felt both her pain and surprise as she gasped then continued to sob. He hadn't expected her to accept what he was doing, but she gladly took refuge in his warm embrace, holding tightly onto him as though he would save her from the things that hurt her. And in truth, that's exactly what he wanted.
Maya continued to sob for several minutes after that. Her tears forming a wet spot on Cedric's shirt. He didn't mind it at all. His only thoughts were of making her feel better. He was cherishing this moment more than he had cherished any other. In fact, he had never experienced anything quite like this, or even acted this way in his entire life. What was it about this girl that made him do this?
It was a little after nine when Maya fell asleep in Cedric's arms. He sat by the dresser holding her, waiting patiently till she woke up. He stared out the window and saw the stars and the moon and the outstretched ocean. It was the last thing he saw before he too fell asleep with Maya cradled in his arms, both of their heads leaning on one another. Anyone who might have found them sleeping there would have thought them to be lovers.
